Troubleshooting

This appendix provides specific troubleshooting information for the HP Smart Array

Cluster Storage system. Use it to find details about startup and operation errors.

For a list of error messages specific to this system, refer to Appendix C, “Display

Messages.” For information on LEDs, refer to Chapter 1, “Component

Identification.”

This appendix includes the following topics:

• When the System Does Not Start

You are provided with initial instructions on what to try and where to go for help

for the most common problems encountered during initial POST. A successful

startup requires the system to power up and provide the “Startup Complete”

message.

• Diagnosis Steps

If the system does not power up after you have performed initial troubleshooting

procedures, use the tables in this section to identify possible reasons for the

problem, possible solutions, and references to other sources of information.

• Recovering from Hard Drive Failure

Fault tolerance provides protection from data loss during drive failures, but

specific procedures for recovery are necessary. Use the procedures in this section

to optimize the recovery effort.
