Introduction HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack (PMP) is a software solution that detects and analyzes hardware performance issues on HP ProLiant servers, HP Integrity Servers and HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) shared storage devices. PMP provides the tools you need to receive proactive notification of building bottleneck conditions and debug existing performance issues. With PMP, you can monitor performance on one or more servers.

Applying software licenses In the earlier releases of PMP, servers and storage were licensed using the Licensing Administration page of PMP. In this version of PMP, the navigation for licensing servers is modified. The navigation for licensing storage devices remains the same.

The Licensing Setup page appears. The information in this page is categorized in the following sections: • All Licensed Devices - This section lists all the devices that have already been licensed. • All Devices not available for Licensing - This section lists all the devices that cannot be licensed. It also lists the reason why this server cannot be licensed. For example, the device may not be a supported server, or it does not have a serial number or it is part of a configuration that is not supported.

4. Select the server that you need to license and click Apply License. The servers are now licensed and can be monitored. NOTE: The servers are licensed if there are sufficient licenses. 5. To monitor the servers, click Run Now. The PMP Monitoring page appears. To obtain additional licenses, you must purchase a ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack license kit. The subsequent steps in licensing servers using the Online Analysis page are same as the steps to license servers using the Configuration page. Adding licenses While licensing a server, it is possible that the number of servers that need to be licensed exceed the number of licenses that are available. In such cases, a license or a key must be added to license the additional servers. To add a license: 1.

Adding a key individually Besides adding a license when attempting to license a server, you can add licenses to the databases independently as well. There are two ways you can add a license to the database: • Add a key individually • Add a key from a file To add a key individually: 1. In the HP SIM console toolbar, select Deploy>License Manager>Manage Keys. 2. Click Add Keys. The Add a New Key pane appears. 3. Enter the key in the five text boxes. Be sure to enter five characters in each field.

Adding key from file: Through HP SIM, you can add one or more keys to the database by saving it in a file, and then uploading it into the database. The file must be in the XML format and must be saved with a key extension. The file can contain any number of keys in it. Once the file is uploaded, all the keys saved in it are automatically added to the database. You can create a file and add the keys to it. However, be sure to follow the following format:
