U320 Installation Guide
1. While OpenVMS is starting up, each A7173A adapter port and its current firmware version
number will be announced by the following console messages:
%PKC0, Copyright (c) 2001 LSI Logic, PKM V1.1.01
%PKC0, SCSI Chip is LSI53C1030, Operating mode is LVD Ultra320 SCSI
%PKC0, LSI53C1030 firmware version is 1.3.35.65
Once system startup is complete, log into a privileged account such as SYSTEM and confirm
that all of the A7173A adapter ports have been configured. The ports are represented by
devices named PKA0:, PKB0:, etc., two per adapter. OpenVMS generates device names for
the ports when it configures them, typically at boot time. Parallel SCSI ports have the device
name PK. The controller letter, A, B, … is assigned in the order that the PK ports are
configured.
2. Type the SHOW DEVICE/FULL DCL command to verify that all of the A7173A port devices
are present. The displayed device type should be "HP A7173A 1030 SCSI" as shown below:
$ SHOW DEVICE/FULL PK
Device PKC0:, device type HP A7173A 1030 SCSI, is online, error logging is
enabled.

Current Interrupt CPU Id 1
Device PKD0:, device type HP A7173A 1030 SCSI, is online, error logging is
enabled.

3. Parallel SCSI disk devices are named DKA0:, DKA100:, etc., where the controller letter
matches the port's controller letter, and the unit number is derived from the device's SCSI
ID (DKA0 for ID 0, DKA100 for ID 1, etc.). In the same manner, parallel SCSI magnetic tape
devices are named MKA500:, etc. Type the SHOW DEVICE DCL command to show the
devices connected to a SCSI port as shown below:
$ SHOW DEVICE DKC
