PMP Setup and Installation Guide v5.5
Licensing 35
Licensing
Overview
This chapter provides information about licensing servers and network storage for use with PMP.
In the earlier releases of PMP, servers and storage were licensed using the Licensing Administration page of PMP.
In this version of PMP, the navigation for licensing servers and storage devices is modified. Use the Configuration
page or the Online Analysis page to license servers using PMP. This change integrates the licensing feature of
PMP with that of HP SIM. From now on, users need not go to the Licensing page to license all servers. From now
on, all users can license all servers through HP SIM.
Licensing preparation
Before licensing servers for PMP, verify that each of the servers has a supported operating system and version of
Management Agents installed. Also be sure that HP SIM reports the correct hardware and software information
for each server.
For more information about discovering and updating the server list in HP SIM, see the “Obtaining the server list”
chapter of this guide. For information about supported operating systems and Management Agent versions, refer
to the HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack Support Matrix.
License management
Licenses are applied to servers and network storage enclosures. One license is required for each server and
storage enclosure to be monitored. Licenses for all servers and storage enclosures monitored by PMP are stored
on the middle-tier (analysis server). A permanent free license is automatically applied to the middle-tier server
with the PMP installation.
IMPORTANT: After licenses are applied, they cannot be removed, revoked, or transferred to another server.
For information about purchasing licenses for PMP, refer to http://www.hp.com/products/pmp
.
Licensing Servers
In the earlier releases of PMP, servers and storage were licensed using the Licensing Administration page of PMP.
In this version of PMP, the navigation for licensing servers is modified. The navigation for licensing storage
devices remains the same.
With this release, you can license servers for PMP using one of the following pages:
• Configuration page
• Online Analysis page
You can license a server that meets at least one of the following conditions:
• Be a supported server
• Have serial number
• Be part of a supported configuration
In addition, the management agents running on the managed node must be of a supported version. If the servers
meet one of these conditions, you can license the server using the Configuration page or the Online Analysis
page. For more information on licensing servers using these pages, refer to the HP ProLiant Essentials
Performance Management Pack User Guide.
License status
Licensed servers and network storage enclosures appear on the Licensing Setup page with “Licensed” displayed
in the License Status column.
Unsupported servers in the server list display a message in the License Status column that details why the server is
not available for licensing.
