Implementing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 on HP Integrity Servers
Q: I am happy with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and no service pack. Am I still
supported?
A: HP strongly recommends that you upgrade to the latest Service Pack to ensure system reliability
and security. If you have a support call and you are not running with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack
2 you will be asked to upgrade.
Q: I don’t plan to move to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2. Will HP
still support me with QFEs and other HP value add software updates via the HP
web site?
A: Yes. Smart Update and Smart Setup media will provide support for both Microsoft Windows
Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2.
Note: During SP 2 beta testing, HP tested hundreds of scenarios involving upgrades from Windows
Server 2003 with and without Service Pack 1. If you have an old installation of the Windows Integrity
solution, we recommend that you first upgrade the system to Service Pack 1, and then upgrade to
Service Pack 2.
Known Issues with workarounds
Issue: Installed Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition (no Service Pack) which was part of the
Windows Solution Release 3.0 (April 2004). Using the HP reinstall media14E Japanese, went
through the steps to upgrade to Integrity Support Pack 5.0. After the upgrade is complete, if you try to
go to the user interface for ACU while in local mode, the source code is displayed, not the interface.
ACU works fine from the System Management Home Page. This problem seems to only occur when
upgrading from older builds.
NOTE: This system was installed with the base image 14E and not updated with the latest Microsoft
QFEs before applying the support pack and Service Pack 2 update. So if you don’t have SP 1, but
have been keeping your system up to date you probably won’t see this issue.
Workaround: Use ACU from the System Management Home Page or Upgrade to Integrity Support
Pack 3.30, reboot, install Service Pack 1, reboot, install Integrity Support Pack 5.0, reboot, then
install Service Pack 2.
