Fault Monitoring on Windows Integrity Servers

Smart Array Controllers - 53xx, 64xx
SAS (P400, P600, P800)
Fiber Channel HBA (Host Bus Adapters) - Qlogic, Emulex
Storage connected to SCSI and Smart Array
Storage connected to SAS
Storage connected to Fiber Channel
Tape Storage
Type of Errors
Storage agents monitor a wide range of Storage events including:
Controller Failures
Disk Failures
Battery failures
RAID configuration changes
Storage States indicating events such as Rebuilding Disks etc.
Connectivity loss
Redundant Paths and Failover cases
Storage Box events e.g. MSA boxes and the events include Fan, Power Supply,
temperature Sensors etc.
Tape Storage Events including door open/close etc
Methodology
Each storage agent collects data at the collection interval set in the control panel applet,
(default is 2 minutes). When the agent detects a device change, it generates the
corresponding Windows event log message and an SNMP trap. The Event Source field
indicates “Storage Agents”.
Note: Event notification drivers (and service in the case of SAS) must be installed for
storage boxes (or chassis) to be monitored. To do this, you must install the support
pack.
Output
Storage data is displayed in SMH Web Management pages.
SNMP Traps can be collected by HPSIM and MOM.
Windows Event log messages are logged for the Storage events.
Storage events are also reflected in SMH Log pages.
NIC Agent Service
The Network Interface Card (NIC) Agent runs as a Windows service and returns information
about NIC configurations (for example, logical interfaces, physical interfaces, VLANs and
statistics). The agent also monitors and reports NIC connectivity, redundancy status, and
virus like activity detected by the Virus Throttle Filter Driver.
