Appendix D
Reload System Software
Note: This appendix applies to the Fujitsu and Seagate ST5660N disk drives
which were used in Release 1.0 and 2.0 of the LCS60. Release 3.0 is
equipped with a Seagate ST11200N disk drive; procedures for the R3.0
drive are given in Chapter 9.
If the system crashes, it may be necessary to reload the system software by:
1 . Installing the UNIX System software
2 . Installing the UFS Utility Fixes tape (Chapter 9)
3 . Removing the inet package (Chapter 9)
4 . Installing the LCS60 application software (Chapter 9).
UNIX System Software Installation
Caution: Once the UNIX Software has been loaded, the LCS60 must not be
reset or powered off without first shutting down the system
(/etc/shutdown -y -g0 -i0). Resetting or powering off the system may
result in file damage.
Caution: A new installation of the UNIX System will destroy all files
currently on disks used for the installation.
To install the UNIX System software:
1 . Power off the LCS60.
2 . Insert the UNIX System installation tape (tape 1 of 3) in the tape drive.
(Insert the tape with the label toward the left and the tape guard down.)
3 . Turn the machine on; this will generate the autoboot.
4 . Abort the autoboot by hitting the Break key; this will display the
debugger prompt: 197-Bug>.
