HP Desktop Status
HP Desktop Status provides printer information to users and
administrators. Printer information includes printer status,
capabilities, and diagnostic information about the HP JetDirect
print server.
HP Desktop Status is accessed through a Taskbar icon that is
automatically added to the desktop when a new printer that uses
HP JetDirect Port is added to the
Printers
folder. The HP Desktop
Status icons change color (green, yellow, red) to represent the
HP JetDirect print server's current status.
Peer-to-Peer
With the HP JetAdmin for Windows 95/98 software, users on a
peer-to-peer configured network (also known as direct mode) who
want access to the network printer can add the network printer to
their systems and use the printer as if it was their own. This
capability is provided by HP JetAdmin’s Direct Mode.
If you are running clients on Novell NetWare, see the chapter
“Novell NetWare Networks (Windows 9x & NT/2000 Client).”
Note If you are using your printer for both Direct Mode
and NetWare Server Mode, use the same print
server name for both systems. Otherwise, the
NetWare connection to the printer will be lost.
