FTP Access Protocol Support
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is now supported as a network protocol
for access to files on the server. Users can use their familiar FTP
commands to copy files from the server.
Client Access to
Discs
From a PC on the network, two types of FTP access are permitted:
•
Administrator username access to the root:
The username
root
and the server password (by default
pass
)
will always gain access to the root, containing the
Volumes
folder (all discs) and the
System
folder (configuration files).
•
Configured FTP username access to
Volumes
:
Configure an alternative FTP username and password to
provide access to the
Volumes
folder (containing all discs).
CAUTION!
❏
No security restrictions apply to FTP users. A username and
password (as described above) provide access to all discs and
contents (the
Volumes
folder). Passwords are the only lock.
Configuring the
Server for FTP
Start the web browser, access the web page for the server, and
select the
Quick Setup
tab. Click the
Detailed View
icon. On the
resulting
Protocols
page, click the
FTP
tab. The settings are:
•
FTP User Name
FTP User Password
Set up a username and password for FTP access by clients to all
the discs, in the Volumes folder. By default, no username is
configured here, so only the administrator username
root
and
the current server password can be used. See the preceding
“Client Access to Discs” section (page 8) for more information.
•
FTP Time Out
You can optionally configure the time in seconds of inactivity
after which the FTP session is closed.
•
FTP Max Users
You can optionally configure the maximum number of simulta-
neous FTP sessions.
