NOTE: When using the log files to troubleshoot an error condition or failure, you must view the log files
from each system where the condition occurred.
Additionally, the various status messages generated can be used to determine what occurred. To view the
status messages in the SMS Administrator console:
1. In the SMS Administrator console, expand Systems Management Server>Site
Database>System Status.
2. Use the nodes below the System Status node to view status messages for individual advertisements or
packages.
3. Use the Status Message Queries node below System Status to display status messages for specific
SMS objects, such as packages, collections, advertisements, and programs.
Use the built-in Software Update reports (on page 25), such as the report titled "Summary of
software updates that failed to deploy," to determine the actual status of patch installation.
NOTE: The installation log file displays the individual component install status from the target server and
might be helpful. The installation log file, cpqsetup.log, is currently located at C:\Cpqsystem\Log directory
in the target system. The log file location is subject to change with future releases.
