Section 3: HP 5242-ACL Tape Drive
Note: If the you urgently need to unload a cartridge, even at the risk of losing data, you
must force an eject.
2.6.1 Hold the Eject Button down for at least 5 seconds. The autoloader's LCD displays Force Eject.
2.6.2 The autoloader waits 35 seconds to give the normal eject procedure a chance to occur.
2.6.3 Once this time elapses and a tape is loaded in the tape drive, the tape immediately unthreads and
the cartridge ejects, regardless of what operation the tape drive was performing. The cartridge is
then placed in its slot in the magazine, and the tape drive resets as though the power had been
cycled.
Because the force eject might interrupt operation, the tape drive might not write EOD before the
cartridge ejects. This situation causes loss of data, and results in a cartridge with an invalid format.
2.6.4 If no cartridge is loaded in the tape drive, the autoloader waits 35 seconds, then begins the process
of ejecting the magazine. The autoloader resets as though power had been cycled.
Note
: A forced eject overrides any SCSI Prevent Media Removal that is in effect and might abort any
SCSI operations that are in progress on the autoloader.
2.7 Front Panel LEDs
The autoloader has three front panel LEDs that indicate how the autoloader is working. (See Figure 32.)
