Global Instant Capacity
Does HP know the configuration of the GiCAP groups? No. GiCAP group data is stored on the
GiCAP Group Manager, which runs in the customer’s data center. The group configuration is
limited by HP grouping rules, but information about groups or group members is not
communicated to HP.
Is GiCAP migration supported on a completely unavailable server? Yes. GiCAP Disaster Recovery
is supported as long as the Group Manager is running Instant Capacity version 9.0 or later, and
all known hosts on member servers in the group are running Instant Capacity version 9.0 or
later.
How much history is retained in the GiCAP log files? The GiCAP log files retain up to 2 MB of
GiCAP events. Some example GiCAP events that might be logged include:
• A GiCAP group is created or removed.
• A member is added to or removed from a GiCAP group.
• A member is updated through addition or removal of a host.
• A standby Group Manager is added or removed.
• A standby Group Manager takes control from the active Group Manager.
• A codeword is applied that modifies the available Sharing Rights.
• The grouping rules are replaced.
• Usage rights or temporary capacity is transferred between a member and the GiCAP Group
Manager.
You can view all events in the GiCAP log files in the /var/adm/gicap.log file on the Group
Manager system.
