Appendix C: Configuring
Insight Control with minimal
SQL user privileges post-
installation
Note:
Ensure that at least one user with the SYSADMIN (admin) server role is present in SQL server.
Otherwise, you will not be able to connect to SQL server.
If you have only one user with the SYSADMIN role in SQL server, you must create another user (for
example,
myuser) with the SYSADMIN role before altering the current user (admin).
Note:
If BUILTIN\Administrators is added by default as the login user in SQL server, you must remove it.
By default, all users in this group will have the SYSADMIN privilege.
1. Create a nondefault admin user in the OS.
2. Install SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with the user created in step 1.
3. Install IS products using the same user and database.
4. List all IS products and databases used. To find the databases used by SIM and each
plug-in, go to
Management Studio ->Databases.
5. Create a new user (non-admin privilege) in the OS. (Do not assign this user to any
group.)
6. In SQL Management Studio, perform the following tasks:
• Log in to SQL Management Studio.
• Go to Security->Logins->New login. Provide the user name created in OS level
select windows authentication mode.
• For SIM and each plug-in, go to user mapping and select the respective database
name and user name.
