Installing and upgrading to HP Insight Software 6.3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster with SQL Server 2008 for high availability

Getting sta rted
This white paper documents how to install Insight Software on a new two-node Microsoft Failover
Cluster.
Note:
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise supports Failover Clusters up to 16 nodes.
The number of supported nodes in a cluster varies by operating system
version. For details, navigate to
http:/ / support.microsoft.com and search
for “Maximum number of supported nodes in a cluster”.
The major steps are:
• Set up the failover environment
• Install SQL Server 2008 on the cluster
• Insta ll a nd va lida te Insight Softwa re on the cluster
If a clustered Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise named instance exists on a different cluster than
the one on which Insight Software is to run, you can use this instance and skip the installation of a
new SL Server 2008 instance on the Insight Software cluster. In this case, you can also skip the
allocation of the access point IP addresses and network names, and the shared disks for Microsoft
SQL Server a nd for Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator.
Otherwise, the SQL Server instance created below will be used to host the databases required for
Systems Insight Manager and the Insight Software applications.

Management Server requirements” in
HP Insight Software Support Matrix, and
http:/ / www.windowsservercatalog.com/ to validate servers and storage that are certified for
Windows Server 2008 R2.
