Appendix B: Upgrading clustered Insight Software
This appendix describes how to upgrade Insight Softwa re in a cluster environment. The upgrade
procedure can be used to do the following:
1. Upgrade from Insight Software 6.1 Update 1 or a succeeding release to Insight Softwa re 6 .3 .
2. Add new products to an existing insta lla tion of Insight Softwa re 6 .3 .
3. Apply an Insight Software 6.3 incremental update to Insight Softwa re 6 .3 .
4. Upgrade directly from Insight Softwa re 6 .1 Update 1 or a succeeding release, to Insight Software
6.3.x by installing Insight Software 6.3 together with the incremental update.
Upgra de overview
Th e following steps are a high level overview of the upgrade procedure fo r Insight Software running in
a two-node failover cluster. For deta ils, refer to the section, Upgrade steps
below.
1. Ba c k up the cluster including the Insight Softwa re a nd SQ L Server shared disks.
2. Install any prerequisites for the new software on both cluster nodes.
3. Upgrade the primary system.
o Ensure the secondary is shut down.
o Afte r removing Insight Software services from cluster control, run Administrative
Tools Ser vices to sta rt the Insight Software services on the primary.
o Upgrade Insight Softwa re on the primary. Yo u can upgrade to a new major release,
insta ll new products, and/ or apply an incremental update.
4. Re sto re the Insight Software and SQL shared disks to their pre-upgra de sta tes.
5. Upgrade the secondary system.
o Ensure the primary is shut down.
o Afte r removing Insight Software services from cluster control, run Administrative
Tools Ser vices to sta rt the Insight Softwa re services on the secondary.
o Upgrade Insight Softwa re on the seconda ry. You can upgrade to a new major
release, insta ll new products, and/ or apply a n incremental update.
o Stop the Insight Software services on the secondary.
6. Use Fa ilo ver Cluster Manager to update cluster resources for the new software.
7. Sta rt Systems Insight Mana ger on the primary.
8.
Perform va lida tion and final configura tion steps.
Note:
The Insight Software installer stops and starts the Insight Software services.
Before running the installer, you must use Fa ilover Cluster Manager to take
the Insight Software (cms-c2-hpsim) service offline so that failover clustering
is not monitoring the service. You do not need to take offline the SQL Server
service or any other service. Fo r details, refer to the section Upgrade Steps
below.
Exp ected downtime
During the upgrade, Insight Software services are not available.
