Insta lling Microsoft SQ L Server 2008 Enterprise SP1 as a cluster service

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 provides SQL database servic e s to Insight Softwa re a pplica tions. The

Ente rp rise Ed ition with Service Pa ck 1 is required. A separate insta ll is done for each node, see

Creating a slipstream distribution

Install from a “slipstream” distribution of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and SP1. There are known

problems installing and updating from the original RTM d i str i bution. Refer to the following resources

Alternative method for launching the SQL Server 2008 installer

HP encountered a difficulty, documented by Microsoft as “Error message when you install SQL Server

2008 on a Windows Server 2008-based cluster: The cluster either has not been verified or there are

errors or failures in the verification report.” Refer to KB953748 or SQL server books online, see

http:/ / support.microsoft.com/ kb/ 953748 This condition occurs during SQ L Server 2008 installation

after you have run cluster verification with no errors or failures being reported and effectively halts

your installation.

If this occurs i n your installation, the workaround is to invoke the SQL Server 2008 installer from the

command prompt as described here. Navigate to the directory that contains setup.exe for the SQ L

Server 2008 slipstrea m distribution. Then use one of the following comma nds to start the SQ L Server

2008 insta ller.

1. For insta lla tion on the first node:

setup /SkipRules=Cluster_VerifyForErrors /Action=InstallFailoverCluster

2. For insta lla tion on the second node:

setup / SkipRules=Cluster_VerifyForErrors / Action=AddNode

Do not use this method to bypass a ctual cluster verification errors or failures
