Installing and upgrading to HP Insight Software 6.3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster with SQL Server 2008 for high availability

If yo u a re implementing shared storage with an iSCSI SAN, in addition to the above network
resources, you need an additional dedicated network adapter on each cluster system and, possibly,
IP a ddresses for the ta rget. (The ta rget is the stora ge controller to which the cluster systems connect to
access SAN resources.)
Cluster configura tion
Fig ure 1 demonstrates how to configure a cluster for enhanced performance once all components are
insta lled. In this a ctive-active configuration, loa d is distributed by running Insight Software and SQL
Server on different systems.
The purpose of the primary system is run the Systems Insight Manager services and other Insight
Software components.
The purpose of the secondary system is to run the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 processes and to
handle remote Microsoft SQL Server commands.
Setting up the failover environment
This section covers setting up the cluster environment in preparation for installing SQL Server 2008
a nd Insight Softwa re. At this time, W indows 2 0 0 8 R2 Enterprise should be installed on the primary
and secondary systems, the public and private networks should be configured on each, the systems
should be members of the domain which is to host the cluster, and all other network and storage
resources described above should have been provisioned and are available.

Please review the credential requirements for the person who creates the cluster and configures cluster
services. See Fa ilover Cluster Step-by-Step Guide: Configuring Accounts in Active Directory, a t

Refer to Setting Up W indows Service Accounts, http:/ / msdn.microsoft.com/ en-

This white paper defines two logical administrator accounts:
The Cluster Administra tor a ccount used to crea te the cluster. This a ccount must meet the a ccount
requirements described in the document noted above for the person who insta lls the cluster.
An SQL/ IS Administrator account, used to install and configure the Microsoft SQL Server and
Insight Software components. This account must meet the same requirements as the Cluster
Administra tor a ccount.
In practice these may be separate accounts or the same account.
Note:
To avoid a known installation problem, do not use a space in the SQL/ IS
Administrator account password.
