Installing and upgrading HP Insight Management 7.2 on Windows Server 2012 Failover Clusters
White paper | HP Insight Management 7.2
69 | March 2013
c. Upgrade Insight Management on the secondary system. You can upgrade to a
new major release, install new products, and/or apply an incremental update.
d. Stop the Insight Management services on the secondary system.
6. Use Failover Cluster Manager to update cluster resources for the new software.
7. Start Systems Insight Manager on the primary system.
8. Perform validation and final configuration steps.
Note:
The Insight Management installer stops and starts the Insight Management services. Before
running the installer, you must use Failover Cluster Manager to take the Insight Management
(cms-c16-matrix) service offline so that Failover Clustering is not monitoring the service. You
must not take offline the SQL Server or MS DTC clustered services. For details, see Upgrade steps.
Expected downtime
During the upgrade, Insight Management services are not available.
The amount of time to upgrade a two-node cluster is approximately the time to do the following:
• Create a complete backup of the cluster primary and secondary systems including the
Insight Management, SQL Server, Cluster Quorum, and Distributed Transaction
Coordinator shared disks.
• Install the new version of Insight Management on the primary system.
• Restore the Insight Management and SQL Server shared disks using the backup.
• Install the new version of Insight Management on the secondary system.
Depending on your local installation and specific backup and restore tools, it may take 1–2 days to
upgrade a two-node cluster.
Upgrade preconditions and requirements
The following preconditions and requirements are needed:
1. HP Insight Software 6.2, a later release, or Insight Management 7.2 is already installed
and configured in a Windows Server Failover Cluster implementation.
2. If you are installing Insight Management 7.2, you need the HP Insight Management 7.2
DVD #1 and DVD #2.
3. If you are installing an Insight Management 7.2 update, you need the update DVD.
4. No Insight Management jobs, tasks, requests, or migrations are running during the
upgrade.
5. The configuration of the managed environment doesn’t change during the upgrade.
6. Systems Insight Manager is not used during the upgrade except as described in this
appendix.
7. A utility is needed to back up and restore cluster storage including the Insight
Management and SQL Server shared disks.
