HP Insight Management 7.3 DMT White Paper
HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration (IO) support matrix
Starting in 6.3, federated CMS is enabled by default in every new installation. Even if a single CMS is installed and
configured, federation may be enabled. Thus, when planning the migration of IO data, make sure to review Table 10
carefully.
In order to check whether federated CMS is enabled in your environment:
• In CMS, open the hpio.properties file located at <IO Install Path>\conf and search for the
federated.io property.
• If this property is set to true, the environment is configured as federated CMS.
• If this property is set to false, the environment is configured for non-federated CMS.
• If this property is not found, the environment is configured as federated CMS.
In a federated CMS scenario, there are two kinds of systems that can be migrated: the primary CMS (which has IO
installed) and the secondary CMS (which does not have IO installed).

Primary federated

No
It is possible to manually disable federated CMS on the
target in order to proceed with migration (
non-
federated
to non
-federated scenario). To do so, open
hpio.properties
located at <IO Install
Path
>\conf and update the property
federated.io
to
false
.
Primary federated CMS Primary federated
CMS
Yes
Secondary federated
CMS
Secondary federated
CMS
Yes
This requires additional steps to be executed in the
Primary CMS before and after the migration of the
secondary CMS. These extra steps are documented in
Configuring the target CMS for migration
and Post
import operation tasks
.
Primary federated CMS Non federated CMS
(standalone)
No
If federation does not have secondary CMS
’s registered
and only the primary CMS is part of the federation,
federation
may be disabled. This requires HP support to
help turn an existing federated CMS into a non
-
federated
CMS.

Ten properties migration
The values of the properties located in hpio.properties are migrated from the source CMS to the target CMS,
except for the values listed below. If any of these values have been changed, make a backup copy of the file or note any
changes to the properties so that you can insert these values into the file on the target CMS after the migration is
complete.
