Backing up and Restoring HP Insight Management 7.0 Central Management Server (Windows)

The mxsync tool fails if HP Storage Provisioning Manager is not installed. If HP Storage

Provisioning Manager is not installed, the Logical servers and associated SAN-based storage

section of the mxsync tool will fail.

Here is an example of the mxsync output when HP Storage Provisioning Manager is not

installed:

Workaround The mxsync command prevents the Administrator from exiting the Logical

servers and associated SAN-based storage section until it can complete each step without

error. If SPM is not installed on your CMS, you will need to perform the following steps to get

around this issue:

1. Exit mxsync by responding ”n” when asked if you would like to repeat this phase.

2. Re-run mxsync using the –c –e options. For each analysis phase, you will be asked if

you would like to perform this analysis phase. Respond ”n” to skip each section that you

have already completed and to skip the phases of the Logical servers and associated

SAN-based storage section.

3. Manually start the following services from the Windows Services interface:

a. HP Extensible Storage & Server Adapter

b. HP Logical Server Automation

4. Log in to the SIM browser and run a logical server refresh by selecting HP Matrix OE

visualization… from the Tools menu in Systems Insight Manager. Select Logical Servers 

Refresh… from the Tools menu in Matrix OE. Select all of the refresh options (except

Change Logical Server Associations), click the Refresh button, then wait for the refresh

operation to complete. You can check status of the refresh jobs by selecting Logical

Server Job Status… from the Report menu in Matrix OE.

5. Complete the remaining synchronization sections and phases of mxsync.
