Backing up and Restoring HP Insight Management 7.0 Central Management Server (Windows)

VC modules added or removed after backup
If, as a post-backup activity, VC modules were added to, removed from, or replaced in an
enclosure that is managed by VCEM on the CMS being restored, mxsync will report an error
when trying to perform domain synchronization. Manual steps will need to be performed to
synchronize the domain with the restored VCEM database.
An example of the error:
**** Execution: Domain synchronization ****
**** Section 2 of 5, phase 2 of 2 ****
This may take a few minutes ...

Synchronize VC Domain Val-Encl3-Vc in VCEM............................[ERROR]

Execution failed. A successful execution is necessary, before proceeding to
the next phase of synchronization. You can choose to repeat analysis and
execution for this phase (Domain synchronization) or stop the synchronization
process. If the synchronization process is stopped, it can be restarted later.

To verify if this error is due to added or removed VC modules, you can check the details of
the failed job in the VCEM job table. Go to Integrated Consoles Virtual Connect Enterprise
Manager (VCEM)… from the Tools menu in Systems Insight Manager. Select the Jobs tab to
view the status of jobs. Look for a recently failed domain maintenance task. Double-click
on the task to view the details. If the synchronization step failed because VC modules were
added or removed as a post-backup activity, you will see a message like the following:
“the cabinet or VC modules installed in the enclosure [x] interconnect bays of VC Domain
[y] do not match the counterpart enclosure of the VC Domain Group.”
You may see a different error in this situation or for other situations in which a VC Domain
Group was deleted and re-created as a post-backup activity: “Error during VC domain [y]
maintenance. Details: VCEM cannot perform the requested operation because the VC
domain [y] is not under maintenance.
Important:
You will not be able to complete the VCEM Synchronization Section
until all added and removed VC modules are successfully
processed.
The manual steps to resynchronize the restored VCEM database are listed here.
1. Identify the VC Domain Groups with this error in VCEM.
2. For each VC Domain Group with this error,
a. Record the VC Domain Group configuration settings including the name of the VC
Domain Group, the VC Domains in the domain group, and the MAC, WWN and
logical serial number ranges.
b. Delete the VC Domain Group from VCEM.
