Backing up and Restoring HP Insight Management 7.0 Central Management Server (Windows)

CMS configurations
The HP Insight Management software CMS can be configured in different configurations.
The procedures in this document cover the following configurations:
1. Stand-alone CMS
2. HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration Federated CMS
3. Microsoft Failover Cluster (for high availability)
The stand-alone CMS the basic configuration in which all components run on a single
server. This configuration may also be referred to as a non-federated CMS.
For HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration Federated CMS environments, multiple Insight
Management CMSs are federated together. In this configuration, HP Matrix infrastructure
orchestration runs on only one CMS, the primary CMS. The primary CMS communicates with
one or more secondary CMSs. A secondary CMS does not run infrastructure orchestration,
but managed resources on this CMS can be configured and provisioned by infrastructure
orchestration on the primary CMS. This configuration is also referred to as an infrastructure
orchestration federated CMS.
HP Insight Management can also be configured for high availability using Microsoft Failover
Cluster. In the typical configuration, two servers, as cluster members, are configured to run
HP Insight Management, though it runs on only one server at a time. One server acts as the
primary node; the second server is referred to as the secondary node. The secondary node
is available to host the CMS in the event of a failure on the primary node. In this
configuration, the HP Insight Management software programs and data files are located
on a shared disk that can be used by either node. If the Insight Management database is
configured in the same cluster, it will be located on a separate shared disk. This
configuration is also referred to as an HA CMS cluster configuration. The primary node will
be used to refer to the cluster server node currently hosting the Insight Management cluster
service and the secondary node will be used to refer to the alternate server.
The procedures in this document also cover HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration
federated CMS environments configured with Microsoft Failover Cluster.
