1 Introduction to using HP Insight Control Insight Control is a product in the HP Insight software family of products that is delivered on the Insight software distribution media. Insight Control is installed through the HP Insight Software Installer wizard, which integrates the installation and upgrade of all Insight software products. If you need to know more about installing Insight Control, see the Insight software installation documentation at the following website: http://www.hp.
Insight Control features and capabilities A full installation of all Insight Control components provides the following features and capabilities: NOTE: If you did not install all components of Insight Control the list of features will vary for your environment. • Rapid OS deployments Insight Control provides a server deployment solution that facilitates the installation, configuration, and deployment of high-volumes of servers.
The following features have been integrated into Systems Insight Manager and Insight Control to make them secure: • Browser Connections Systems Insight Manager enforces a secure HTTPS connection to the web browser. • User Names and Passwords A Systems Insight Manager administrator has total flexibility to configure user accounts and passwords to allow or restrict actions on managed systems. User logins are authenticated by the OS on the CMS, and alll passwords are encrypted.
The web address comprises the following: • The fully qualified host name of the CMS or its IP address • The default access port, port 280 For example, if the fully qualified host name of the CMS is earth.example.com, enter the following web address in your web browser: http://earth.example.com:280/ 3. When the sign-in screen appears, enter the Systems Insight Manager administrator user name and the associated password.
2 Adding and applying licenses When you installed Insight software, the HP Insight Software Getting Started Guide instructed you to use the HP Insight managed system setup wizard to add and apply licenses to your managed systems. Use the procedures in this chapter to add and apply licenses whenever you purchase additional Insight Control licenses from HP.

Manually enter the Insight Control license key (the license key consists of five sets of five characters). Enter the path to the new license file in the Activation Key File Information field, and click Next. Follow the instructions to apply the additional licenses.
3 Verifying your software and hardware environment with the Insight Software Advisor This chapter describes how to use the Insight Software Advisor to analyze and test your software and hardware environment after the initial installation. Running the Insight Software Advisor after installation During the Insight software installation process, you ran the Insight Software Advisor before beginning the installation and then again just after you selected the software you wanted to install or upgrade.
4 Using the HP Insight managed system setup wizard This chapter describes the HP Insight managed system setup wizard, which you can use to run configuration tasks on your managed systems. The first time you instantiate the GUI, you are prompted to select key settings that will get you the best fit and most functionality from your managed systems.
5 Deploying operating systems to managed systems This chapter provides an overview of Insight Control server deployment features to distribute supported operating systems (OSs) to your managed systems. Server deployment overview Insight Control server deployment software offers a complete deployment solution for HP servers by automating the process of deploying and provisioning server software.

6 Managing a virtual machine environment This chapter introduces the Insight Control virtualization features, which significantly extends Systems Insight Manager capabilities to manage a virtual environment. Virtualization overview The virtualization features of Insight Control provide central management and control for virtual environments with Microsoft, HyperV, VMware ESX Server, Citrix XenServer, or Xen on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).

7 Optimizing server power consumption and cooling This chapter provides an overview of Insight Control power management features to manage server power consumption. Power management overview Insight Control power management is an integrated power monitoring and management application that provides centralized monitoring and control of data center power consumption and thermal output.
8 Managing and monitoring server performance This chapter provides an overview of how Insight Control performance manager features help you to manage and monitor server health and performance. Performance management overview Insight Control performance management detects, analyzes, and explains hardware bottlenecks on HP servers (Insight Control does not require Integrity servers to be licensed in order to provide the performance management functionality for Integrity servers).
9 Migrating existing physical or virtual servers to another server This chapter provides an overview of Insight Control server migration. Server migration overview Insight Control server migration makes it easy for you to upgrade or replace your existing server or to implement virtualization. 11 Generating reports This chapter describes reports that are available for Insight Control. Reports overview The Systems Insight Manager reporting features enable you to generate many different types of reports. In addition to offering predefined reports, you also can create user-defined custom reports, and reporting features enable you to edit, copy, and delete any reports you create. All users with sign-in access to Systems Insight Manager can generate reports.
