Volume Retention Manager
Volume Retention Manager (also Data Retention Utility for z/OS) (formerly LDEV Guard) allows you
to protect your data from I/O operations performed by mainframe hosts. Volume Retention Manager
enables you to assign an access attribute to each logical volume to restrict read and/or write
operations. Using Volume Retention Manager, you can prevent unauthorized access to your sensitive
data.
Volume Shredder
Volume shredding allows you to overwrite all of the data on a logical volume with dummy data.
Volume shredding is available for both mainframe and open-system data. You can configure volume
shredding to overwrite volumes up to eight times (recommended minimum is three times). Volume
Shredding is a Virtual LVI/LUN function that is licensed separately.

Performance Management
Performance Manager
Performance Manager contains two important features.
XP Performance Monitor
XP Performance Monitor provides detailed monitoring and collection of the storage system usage and
performance statistics. XP Auto LUN and Server Priority Manager use the data collected by Performance
Monitor to identify and resolve bottlenecks of activity.
XP Auto LUN
XP Auto LUN enables users to optimize their data storage and retrieval on the storage system. It
analyzes detailed information on the usage of the storage system's resources and tunes the storage
system automatically by migrating logical volumes (including mainframe) within the storage system
according to detailed user-specified parameters. Tuning operations can be used to resolve bottlenecks
of activity and optimize volume allocation. XP Auto LUN operations are completely non-disruptive −
the data being migrated can remain online to all hosts for read and write I/O operations throughout
the entire volume migration process. XP Auto LUN also supports manual volume migration operations
and estimates performance improvements prior to migration to assist you in tuning the storage system
for your operational environment.
