HP StorageWorks XP Disk Array Mainframe Host Attachment and Operations Guide XP24000, XP20000 (A5951 - 96151, September 2007)
devices (LDEVs). Each physical ExSA channel interface (port) supports up to 512 logical paths
(32 host paths × 16 CUs) for a maximum of 32,768 logical paths per storage system. ExSA
connection provides transfer rates of up to 17 MB/sec.
NOTE:
Current addressing limitations for ESCON interface are 1024 Unit Addresses (UA) per channel. With
FICON interface, addressability is increased to 65,536 UA.
Mainframe-Compatible Functions
The products listed in this section are compatible for use on z/OS and LINUX mainframes when
operating and managing the storage system.
TrueCopy for Mainframe
TrueCopy for Mainframe enables mainframe (z/OS, S/390) users to perform synchronous and
asynchronous remote copy operations between storage systems. TrueCopy for Mainframe can be
used to maintain copies of data for backup or duplication purposes. Once established, operations
continue unattended and provide continuous, real-time data backup. Remote copy operations are
non-disruptive and allow the primary volumes to remain online to all hosts for both read and write
I/O operations.
TrueCopy for Mainframe also supports Fibre Channel and/or serial (ESCON) connections (depending
on the specific disk array models used) between the main and remote storage systems. Remote copy
operations can be performed between XP disk arrays.
ShadowImage for Mainframe
ShadowImage for Mainframe enables mainframe (z/OS, S/390) users to create high-performance
copies of source LVIs for testing or modification while benefiting from full RAID protection for the
copies. The copies can be available to the same or different logical partitions (LPARs) as the original
volumes for read and write I/Os. ShadowImage for Mainframe allows the user to create up to three
copies of a single source LVI and perform updates in either direction, either from the source LVI to the
copy or from the copy back to the source LVI. When used in conjunction with either TrueCopy for
Mainframe or Compatible XRC, ShadowImage for Mainframe enables users to maintain multiple
copies of critical data at both primary and remote sites. ShadowImage for Mainframe also supports
the Virtual LVI/LUN and Cache LUN XP features, ensuring that all user data can be duplicated by
ShadowImage for Mainframe operations.
The ShadowImage − FlashCopy option provides support for and compatibility with the IBM FlashCopy
data replication feature. The ShadowImage − FlashCopy option establishes pairs so that the copy of
the S-VOL data can be virtually or physically created on the T-VOL. Once the pairs have been
established, it is possible to specify Read/Write operations from the host to virtual data on the T-VOL
or physical data on the S-VOL.
Universal Replicator for Mainframe
Universal Replicator for Mainframe provides a RAID storage-based hardware solution for disaster
recovery which enables fast and accurate system recovery. Once operations are established over
dedicated Fibre Channel remote copy connections, duplicate copies of data are automatically
maintained for backup and disaster recovery purposes. During normal operations, the primary data
volumes remain online to all hosts and continue to process both read and write I/O operations. In
