HP StorageWorks XP Disk Array Mainframe Host Attachment and Operations Guide XP24000, XP20000 (A5951 - 96151, September 2007)
Subsystem IDs (SSIDs)
Subsystem IDs (SSIDs) are used for reporting information from the CU (or controller) to the operating
system. The SSIDs are assigned by the user and must be unique to all connected host operating
environments. Each group of 64 or 256 volumes requires one SSID, so there are one or four SSIDs
per CU image. The user-specified SSIDs are assigned during installation. The following table lists the
SSID requirements.
Table 9 SSID Requirements

NOTE:
* Compatible PAV operations require that one SSID be set for each set of 256 LDEVs.
Mainframe Hardware Definition
Hardware Definition Using IOCP (MVS, VM, or VSE)
The I/O Configuration Program (IOCP) can be used to define the storage system in MVS, VM, and
VSE environments (wherever HCD cannot be used). The storage system supports up to 255 control
unit (CU) images and up to 65,280 LDEVs. Each CU image can hold up to 256 LDEV addresses. A
CU image is the same as an IBM logical sub-system (LSS). The CUADD parameter defines a CU image
by its control unit address, which can be 0 to F for ESCON connectivity, or 00 to FE for FICON
connectivity. The control unit type can be 3990 or 2105 for ESCON but must be 2105 when FICON
connectivity is used.
NOTE:
FICON channel interface requires 2105-F20 emulation.
The following are cautions when using IOCP or HCD:
• Use FEATURE=SHARE for the devices if multiple LPARs/mainframes can access the volumes.
• 16,384 addresses per physical interface are allowed by MVS with FICON channels.
• Only 1024 addresses per physical interface are allowed by MVS with ExSA (ESCON) channels.
(This includes PAV base and alias addresses.)
NOTE:
FICON interfaces support 16,384 unit addresses per channel and up to 65,280 devices on 255 CU images
using CUADD=00 through CUADD=FE in the CNTLUNIT statement.
