• A host at the local site, connected to the local storage system. It is also highly desirable to
have a host at the secondary site connected to the remote system for use in a disaster recovery.
If this is not possible, the local host must be in communication with the remote system.
• A main volume (P-VOL) on the local storage system that is copied to the secondary volume
(S-VOL) on the remote system.
• Fibre Channel data paths for data transfer between main and remote system.
• Target, initiator, and RCU target ports for the Fibre Channel interface.
• Remote Web Console graphical user interface software, used to perform Cnt Ac-S Z
configuration and pair operations. Business Continuity Manager (BCM), RAID Manager , and
PPRC commands can be used for pair operations.
The following figure shows a typical Cnt Ac-S Z environment.

This guide documents Cnt Ac-S Z operations in which the main system is an XP P9500 and the
remote system is an XP P9500, XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array, or XP12000 Disk Array/XP10000
Disk Array.
• The main system consists of a main control unit (MCU) and service processor (SVP).
• The remote system consists of the remote control unit (RCU) and the SVP.
The main system communicates with the remote system over dedicated Fibre Channel data paths.
