Please note the following when sharing Cnt Ac-S Z volumes with BC Z volumes.
• L1 and L2 BC Z pairs can be shared with Cnt Ac-S Z volumes. Both node and leaf S-VOLs are
considered secondary volumes by Cnt Ac-S Z.
• BC Z is recommended for in-system copy operations. However, if BC Z is not installed, Cnt
Ac-S Z can be used to copy within the same P9500. This configuration requires at least one
fibre cable loop. This cannot be done if the BC Z license key is installed in the P9500.
• When using PPRC, the Split status cannot be distinguished from the V-Split status. If you share
a BC Z P-VOL with a Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL, either use the PPRC command to perform the Steady
Split operation, or use Remote Web Console to confirm the pair statuses. Perform the Steady
Split operation using the CSUSPEND parameters (specify the serial number of the PRIM as
MPS00).
Configurations with Business Copy Z P-VOL
Cnt Ac-S Z can share a BC Z P-VOL in three configurations:
• In the following figure, the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL also functions as a BC Z P-VOL. This configuration
allows you to use BC Z for on-site data backup in case of Cnt Ac-S Z failure. Or, the Cnt Ac-S
Z S-VOL can be used to provide remote backup of the BC Z S-VOL in case of a BC Z failure.

• In the following figure, the Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL also functions as a BC Z P-VOL. In this
configuration, BC Z provides another (or several more) backup copies of a Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL.
When a BC Z P-VOL is shared with the Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL, the write operation to the Cnt Ac-S
Z P-VOL takes a longer time than normal. This is especially true when the BC Z pair is in the
V-Split/SUSPVS status and is caused by the BC Z copying process.

• In the following figure, the configurations shown in the previous two figures are combined.
Both the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL and S-VOL function as BC Z P-VOL providing multiple copies at the
local and remote sites.
