HP XP P9000 Continuous Access Synchronous for Mainframe Systems User Guide
RequirementItem
Mainframe related
• IBM PPRC is supported.
• Optional error report communications (ERC) function requires MVS/DFP 3.2.0 or later.
• If the S-VOL is associated with a Cnt Ac-J Z P-VOL, and the main or remote systems
consist of several CPU complexes, a SYSPLEX timer is required to provide a common
time reference for the host I/O time-stamping function.
• ICKDSF R16 + PTF functions require VM/ESA 2.1.0 or later.

A maximum of eight data paths are supported from local storage system to the remote
storage system.
Data path
Fibre Channel, direct or with switch connections. See “Data path requirements and
configurations” (page 46).
Logical paths
• Maximum of eight logical paths supported from the local storage system to the remote
storage system.
• Logical paths are established separately for main local and remote storage system CUs.
• Maximum number of logical paths allowed for a main system is 32 (8 paths per remote
system X 4 remote system per main system).
Maximum number of
remote systems (CU)
• Maximum of four remote storage systems are supported per main system.
• Each remote storage system CU must be added separately to a main system.
Pair volumes
• The S-Vol must be equal to or larger than the P-Vol. However, when the S-Vol is larger
than the P-Vol, swapping the copy direction cannot be performed.
• One P-Vol can be copied to one S-Vol.
• P-Vols and S-Vols can be shared with other HP software product volumes. See “Volume
types that can be shared with Continuous Access Synchronous Z” (page 50).
See “Planning pairs and pair volumes” (page 33) for more information.
Limited per XP P9500 storage system. See “Maximum number of pairs supported” (page 37).Number of pairs

Must be ensured by the user. The track format for the P-VOL and S-VOL must meet the
following requirements:
Disk track format
• The P-VOL and S-VOL must have the same track format.
• Record zero (R0) must be standard format, with key length of zero and data length of
eight. The main system aborts the initial copy operation if R0 is not standard format.
• The CCHH (logical cylinder address and logical head address) of R0 must be identical
to the physical cylinder address and physical head address of the track.
• The CCHH of each user record in a track must be unique.
