HP XP P9000 Continuous Access Synchronous for Mainframe Systems User Guide

2 Requirements and specifications
This chapter provides basic system requirements, along with specifications for BCM, PPRC, and
other mainframe-related interfaces and functions. In addition to the information here, “Planning for
Continuous Access Synchronous Z” (page 28) provides many specifications, recommendations,
and restrictions for the elements of a Cnt Ac-S Z system that require attention before setting up and
using Cnt Ac-S Z.

Continuous Access
Synchronous Z
Must be installed on main and remote system.
Separate license codes are required for each storage system.
Synchronous only. The XP P9500 does not support Asynchronous.
Can co-exist with Continuous Access Synchronous.
For information about exceeding licensed capacity and license expiration, see the HP XP

None.Other required licenses
However, when combining Cnt Ac-S Z and Thin Provisioning Z, the following licensed
capacity limitations apply:
If using a Thin Provisioning Z THP V-VOL (virtual volume) for the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL or
S-VOL, the capacity of the allocated pages for the THP V-VOL will be counted as the
licensed capacity of Cnt Ac-S Z.
If the actual licensed capacity exceeds the available licensed capacity, Cnt Ac-S Z can
be used as usual for 30 days. After 30 days, only split or release operations will be
allowed.
