3 Sharing Business Copy volumes
You can share BC volumes with other HP software product volumes. This chapter discusses
requirements, recommendations, and restrictions for sharing volumes.
Cache Residency
You can use volumes with Cache Residency settings as BC P-VOLs and S-VOLs.
NOTE: For important information about the operation and volumes with Cache Residency settings,
see the bullet on Quick Restore in “Planning for performance” (page 17).
Fast Snap and Snapshot
You can share BC volumes with FS and SS volumes. You can assign shared pairs to consistency
groups, though not to the same consistency group.
The following table shows how you can share volumes.

1. An FS or SS P-VOL in RCPY status cannot be used by BC. For more information, see the following tables.
2. The BC pair must be created before the FS or SS pair.
BC pair operations that you can perform are limited according to the FS or SS pair status. The
following sections show the BC supported operations.
