7 Using Business Continuity Manager
This chapter explains how to use Business Continuity Manager functionality.
Before using copy pairs
This section explains what you should be aware of and do before you use copy pairs.
Preparing to Use the Remote DKC Control Function
The following need to be prepared before the Remote DKC Control Function is used:
1. Place command devices offline.
Before using the Remote DKC Control Function, all command devices should be placed offline.
2. Execute the YKLOAD command from the ISPF panel or script, with the DAD parameter and
ROUTE parameter specified. However, in the ISPF panel, you can omit the ROUTE parameter
specification in the YKLOAD command execution if Y and Preset RouteListID are specified for
Remote DKC Function of the Set Defaults panel.
NOTE:
• A volume defined as a command device cannot be defined as a volume for a copy group
simultaneously. If the command device is defined as a volume in a copy group by mistake,
when the corresponding copy group is used, it results in an I/O error.
• When a command device fails, prepare new volumes for the Primary storage system and the
Secondary storage system, recreate the route list with a new APID, and register the list in the
storage system again.
• Do not delete paths (inter-control unit logical paths or inter-disk controller logical paths) among
storage systems when a command device is defined.
• The YKBLDCMD command must be re-executed after the storage system is turned off.
When Executing Copy Group Operation Commands
You can specify the SELECT parameter for a command that changes the status of a copy pair.
When SELECT(ALL) is specified, copy pairs of all statuses are subject to operation, and when
SELECT(COND) is specified, copy pairs with statuses for which command execution is possible
are subject to operation.
Table 101 (page 309) lists the copy pair statuses for which commands with SELECT(COND) specified
can be executed. When SELECT(COND) is specified, whether the command can be executed is
determined by using the copy pair status that was obtained when the YKQUERY or YKEWAIT
command was most recently executed. Commands other than those shown in Table 101 (page
309) are executed regardless of volume status.
