9 Upgrading the P9000 Performance
Advisor host agents
This chapter describes upgrading the P9000 Performance Advisor Windows and UNIX host agents.

Upgrading the P9000 Performance Advisor host agents
To upgrade the current host agent version to v5.4, you must have one of the following versions, v5.2,
v5.2.1, v5.3, or v5.3.1 installed on your host. To upgrade to v5.2 or v5.3, see the HP StorageWorks
P9000 Perfor mance Advis o r Softw are Installatio n Guide provided on installation disk 2 in the respective
software bundles. To upgrade to v5.2.1 or v5.3.1, see the HP StorageWorks P9000 Performance
Advisor Software Release Notes provided in the respective patch bundles. You can upgrade to v5.2.1
or v5.3.1 only from v5.2 or v5.3 respectively.
Alternatively, you can remove the existing host agent version and install the v5.4 host agent.
IMPORTANT:
• By default, port 80 is reserved on the management station for the P9000 Performance advisor
and host agent communication during the host agent upgrade. So, you might experience connectiv-
ity issues in scenarios where you installed P9000 Performance Advisor and upgraded the UNIX
host agent. The connectivity issue can arise only if you specified a port number other than port
80 when installing P9000 Performance Advisor installation. To resolve port conflict issues, see the
HP StorageWorks P9000 Performance Advisor Software Troubleshooting and FAQs Guide . For

• If you want to upgrade the Windows host agent installed in a location other than the following
default installation location, <Installation_Drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-
Packard\xppa, remove the existing version and then install the v5.4 host agent. For more in-
formation, refer to the Notes section in the HP StorageWorks P9000 Performance Advisor Release
Notes . For document download location, see “Related information” on page 129.
• If you are upgrading a P9000 Performance Advisor LINUX host agent, you have to remove the
existing version of the host agent and install the latest version. For more information, see Removing
a UNIX host agent on page 122.
