CVAE Transition Overview Device Manager
Device Manager Summary of Differences # Contents Summary Notes 1 Logical Group DevMgr V7.0 allows users to configure Logical Groups with more flexibility than in V6. Related GUI and CLIs are affected. 2 Resource Group DevMgr V7.0 has temporary restrictions regarding Resource Group configurations. (Support for Resource Groups for XP and P9500 array is available in V7.1.) 3 Reporting DevMgr V7.0’s reporting feature allows users to organize a customer configurable storage configuration report.
Logical Group Device Manager
Logical Group - Overview of differences between V6 and V7 • Logical Group is enhanced on CVAE V7 to allow customers more flexible and effective storage resource management: 1. Boundary for grouping is expanded. LDEVs located on different storage systems can be grouped. 2. LDEVs that do not have a LU can be grouped. 3. By specifying a Search Condition as a logical group configuration, users can define a group that has dynamically updated contents based on the condition.
Logical Group - Logical Group conversion from V6 to V7 • All Logical Groups structures that customers defined on V6 are inherited to V7 CVAE automatically converts those V6 logical groups to V7 groups at the time of upgrade installation. Logical Group operations have changed between V6 and V7. The changes are described in the slides following this one. V6 Logical Group V7 Logical Group The same tree structure remains. LUNs in V6 are grouped into LDEV.
Logical Group - AddLikeStorage equivalent operations on V7 AddLikeStorage equivalent operations When volumes are allocated to a host first time, it is necessary to set LUN security manually Once volumes are allocated to the host, CVAE V7 remembers the LUN security settings and volumes characteristic assigned to the host If the “Allocate Storage” dialog is launched and the same host is selected again, CVAE retains the previous LUN security settings and volume characteristics automatically V6 Add Like Storage
Logical Group Hosts Functionality – The CVAE 6.x logical group “Hosts” functionality has been incorporated into the “Group of Hosts” logical groups. – User’s logical groups, migrated from CVAE 6.x to CVAE 7.x, will be of type “Groups of Volumes”. – These logical groups cannot be used to allocate volumes to multiple hosts in a single operation as was possible in CVAE 6.x. – For this capability, the user will need to create new logical groups of type “Group of Hosts” as appropriate.
Resource Group Device Manager
Resource Group - Overview of differences between V6 and V7 • A Storage administrator can define a group of resources that a user can access. • V7.0/V7.0.1 requires a user to have access to the “All Resources” group to login to CVAE. • V7.1 requires users be assigned to a user group to login CVAE. After upgrading, users must be assigned to the “AdminGroup” (to access all resources) or another user group. V6 V7.0/V7.0.1 V7.1 Users not assigned to a resource group cannot login.
Resource Group V7.0/V7.0.1 Interim solution for those multi-tenant customers • Upon upgrading CVAE from V6 to V7, the same logical group structure remains.
Reporting Device Manager
Reports Overview of V7.
Reports – The Report feature is available as “Export to CSV”. – “Export to CSV” action is available on the following screens: • Hosts View • Logical Group View • Search Result – Report is flexible and customizable by configuring the displayed columns with Column Settings button. – The format of report is the following: • File name: ReportName-yyyyMMddHHmmss.csv • Format: Here is a sample CSV "LDEV","Label","Capacity","Emulation Type","Storage System","Volume Attributes" "00:00:7A","","1.
Reporting CVAE V7.0 CSV output feature will provide customers with the flexibility to organize reporting for their business purposes. Report feature supported in V6.4 can be migrated as follows. V6.4 Report on GUI V7 Remarks Physical Configuration of Storage Subsystem Not supported Same information can be retrieved by GetStorageArray CLI. Storage Utilization by Host Enhanced Alternative report can be created by using GUI search results.
Reporting - Physical Configuration of Storage Subsystem To retrieve equivalent information from the CLI, execute the following commands: GetStorageArray Basic storage system information GetStorageArray subtarget=PortController Port controller information GetStorageArray subtarget=Port portsubinfo=HostStorageDomain Port and host groups in the port. ControllerID attribute in the port can be used to map to a port controller.
Reporting - Best practices to create reports (CVAE Host Screen) Alternative Report on Storage Utilization by Host or Logical Groups(LG) in V7.0. Configure the displayed columns by using the “Columns Setting” button on Host or LG list screen. Download the csv file by using the “Export to CSV” button to the specified folder.
Reporting - Best practices to create reports (CVAE Search Results Screen) Alternative Detailed Array Report can be created in V7.0. Open the search condition screen and choose the filter conditions. Run the search and check the search result screen. Configure the displayed columns by using the “Columns Setting” button. Download the .csv file by using the “Export to CSV” button to the specified folder.
Reporting - Users and Resource Groups(1/2) Users and Resource groups can be viewed in V7.0/V7.0.1. User and resource group reporting is supported in V7.1.
Reporting - Users and Resource Groups(2/2) Users and User Groups can be reported in CSV format with V7.1.
Reporting - Note for V7 CSV output format This table shows the labeling changes between V6.4 and V7.0. Other attributes are the same as that of V6.4. V6.4 CopyType V7.0 Remarks Copy Info (P-VOL) Copy Info (S-VOL) CopyType, CopyRole and CopyStatus are integrated into one column “Copy Info”. HSD Host Group Terminology changed to be consistent with RWC. ArrayGroupDisplayName Parity Group Terminology changed to be consistent with RWC.
Reporting - V7 CSV output format V6 CSV – Old labels … V7 CSV – New labels … V6 CSV – Discontinued labels
CLI Changes Device Manager
Device Manager CLI - Summary of CLI compatibility between V6 and V7 CLI Categories Compatibility between V6 and V7 Storage System management Fully compatible, except for following commands (New) ReclaimZeroPageVolume, GetZeroPageReclaimVolume (Enhanced for supporting Smart) GetStorageArray, AddPool, ModifyPool Logical Group management GetLogicalGroup is the only available CLI command on V7.0. (See the next slide for details.
Logical Group CLI - Summary of CLI commands for Logical Groups • In V7.0, the Logical Group GUI usability is more improved than V6. Using the GUI for operating Logical Group operations (such as add, delete, modify..) is the best and recommended practice. • All CLI commands associated with Logical Groups are not supported on V7.0, except for GetLogicalGroup. For those operations, please use GUI instead. • The syntax of V7 GetLogicalGroup is full backward compatible with V6.
CLIs for debugging and maintenance - Discontinued CLI commands and replacements • The following CLI commands are for debugging and maintenance purposes only. • Even if customer does not use those APIs, CVAE provided command “cvxpaegetlogs”, they can organize appropriate operation log files for support/engineering teams to investigate. • Debug level can be changed by configuring property files.
CVAE Transition Overview Tiered Storage Manager
Tiered Storage Manager - Summary of differences Tiered Storage Manager # 1 Contents Search conditions to configure “tier”. Notes Available search conditions that customers can use to configure a “tier” are reorganized. This affects tiers which use those conditions.
Search Condition to specify tier - Overview of discontinued conditions and alternatives The following V6 TSM search conditions for tier configuration need to be replaced with other conditions on V7.0. Search condition avaiable on V6 Compatibility status Alternative conditions on V7 Array Group Busy Rate/ Array Group Max Busy Rate Use alternative method. This option is discontinued. Please refer to array group busy rate or max busy rate from Performance Advisor.
Search Condition to specify tier - Alternative for Logical group condition 1. Open the Edit Tier dialog for tiers using the logical group condition. 2. Change the logical group condition to alternative conditions to retrieve the same result. 3. When upgraded to V7, the tier is migrated and appears in the Tiers menu. V6 1 Logical group condition is changed to alternative conditions.
Search Condition to specify tier - Alternative for Logical group condition If the conditions are not replaced with alternatives, the tier is not migrated after upgrading to V7. V6 V7 • For those tiers, the tier information will be output to the following file. The file contains the filter conditions. Please use alternative conditions to create V6 equivalent tiers. • \CVXPAE\TieredStorageManager\logs\ TierInfo_NotSupported_y yyyymmddhhmmss.
CVAE Transition Overview Replication Manager
Replication Manager - Summary of differences Replication Manager # Contents 1 Volume filtering by Logical Group Notes To filter P-VOL or S-VOL, users need to use LDEV label as an alternative to Logical Group in V7. Details of this alternative procedure is described on following slide.
P-VOL/S-VOL filtering with logical group - Differences between V6 and V7 • On RepMgr V6.4, the Pair configuration wizard provides following items for P-VOL/S-VOL filtering: • Host Name • Logical Group • LDEV Label XP24000@192.168.1.1 XP24000@192.168.1.1 XP24000@192.168.1.1 • From RepMgr V7.0, the pair configuration wizard provides following items for P-VOL/S-VOL filtering: • Host Name • LDEV Label XP24000@192.168.1.1 XP24000@192.168.1.1 XP24000@192.168.1.
P-VOL/S-VOL filtering with logical group - Alternatives on V7.0 RepMgr • When filtering P-VOL/S-VOL on the wizard, use “Host” or “Label” instead of “Logical Group” • If the logical group has multiple hosts, repeat the host filtering for each host XP24000@192.168.1. 1 • To identify which LUN belongs to a logical group, proceed with the following in DevMgr GUI: 1. Select the logical group on the “Logical Groups” view 2. Filter the LDEVs with host name 3.
