HP StorageWorks P9000 Replication Manager Software 7.1 Configuration Guide (TB584-96022, May 2011)
Requirements for operating Replication Manager at multiple sites
If you operate Replication Manager at multiple sites, you need to specify the settings so that the IP
addresses of management servers and pair management servers can be determined from their host
names (that is, name resolution can be performed).
Settings that need to be specified include the following:
• Communication between a management server and pair management server
• Make sure that the management server and pair management server can determine each other's
IP address from their host names. If the settings are specified so that address conversion is performed
between the sites (such as for a private address and NAT), Replication Manager might not correctly
connect to Device Manager Agents at other sites.
• Communication between pair management servers
• If you perform a remote copy using multiple pair management servers, make sure that the pair
management server at the primary site and the pair management server at the secondary site can
determine each other's IP address from their host names. If they cannot determine each other's IP
address, an error might occur during copy pair creation.
You can use the following methods so that the IP addresses can be determined from the host names:
• In the hosts file on the management servers or pair management servers, define the IP addresses
and host names of the pair management servers to be connected.
• Use a DNS server.
Functional limitations when software versions do not match
The version numbers of P9000 Command View AE suite products are synchronized to ensure feature
compatibility. For example, the 6.4 versions of Replication Manager and Device Manager support
the same feature set (including, for example, HORC Takeover support).
In an environment where the P9000 Command View AE suite product versions are mixed, support is
limited to the feature set of the earlier version. For example, although Application Agent version 6.3
can be used with Replication Manager 6.4, version 6.3 does not include SQL Server support.
For best results, ensure that the version numbers of installed P9000 Command View AE suite products
are synchronized.
Requirements for mainframe systems
In mainframe systems, a host can also be called a pair management server.
The following table describes the requirements for hosts.
