system. For mainframe systems, the maximum number of LDEVs is based on the total number of LDEVs
in all managed storage systems. The following table shows the maximum number of LDEVs.

Heap size in a mixed environment
For open systems and mainframe systems, the memory heap size that is required to manage copy
pairs and LDEVs is different. Therefore, if open systems and mainframe systems exist in the same
environment, use the appropriate formula below to determine the memory heap size. The formulas
convert the number of copy pairs or LDEVs in a mixed system to an equivalent number for a mainframe
system. Use the resulting value with Table 2-14 or Table 2-15 to make sure the memory heap size is
properly set.
Copy pairs
For copy pairs, use this calculation:
(number-of-copy-pairs-for-open-systems * 6) +
number-of-copy-pairs-for-mainframe-systems
For example, if the number of copy pairs for open systems is 5,000 and the number of copy pairs
for mainframe systems is 20,000, the calculated value is 50,000 ((5,000 * 6) + 20,000). In this
case, the appropriate memory heap size is Medium.
LDEVs
For LDEVs, use this calculation:
(number-of-open-LDEVs * 2) + number-of-mainframe-LDEVs
For example, if the number of open LDEVs is 30,000 and the number of mainframe LDEVs is 40,000,
the calculated value is 100,000 ((30,000 * 2) + 40,000). In this case, the appropriate memory heap
size is Medium.
Number of copy pairs on open systems
If the number of copy pairs is 5,000 or more, edit the following properties in Device Manager Agent
properties files on the pair management server:
server.agent.maxMemorySize in the server.properties file
agent.rm.TimeOut in the agent.properties file
For details about how to edit the properties, see the chapter that describes the settings for using
Replication Manager to manage copy pairs in the HP StorageWorks P9000 Command View Advanced
Edition Suite Software Administrator Guide.
