A management server provides management
information in response to requests from
management clients. Replication Manager and
Device Manager server (a prerequisite program
of Replication Manager) are installed on the
management server.
If multiple sites are used, a management server
is required for each site. Replication Manager
and Device Manager server are installed on the
management server at the local site. Device
Manager server is installed on the management
server at the remote site.
Note: When a remote copy is performed between
sites, the information displayed by web client is
limited dependent upon the storage system model.
For details about how the system configuration
limits displayed information, see the explanation
of web client limitations in the HP StorageWorks
P9000 Replication Manager Software User
Guide.

Management server
A pair management server collects management
information, including copy pair statuses and
performance information for remote copying. RAID
Manager and Device Manager Agent are
installed on each pair management server.
By installing RAID Manager and Device Manager
Agent, you can manipulate copy pairs from
Replication Manager. The pair management
server must recognize the command device in the
target storage system.
If multiple sites are used, at least one pair
management server is required for each site.
Multiple pair management servers can be set up
at each site.
A pair management server can also be used as
a host. When determining whether to set up pair
management servers to be independent of hosts,
consider security and the loads on the hosts.

Normally, a host is a computer on which
application programs are installed. Device
Manager Agent is also installed on a host. A host
uses storage systems as external storage systems.
Installing Device Manager Agent is optional. If
you install Device Manager Agent on a host, you
can view information about that host (such as IP
address and mount points) from Replication
Manager.
