13 Troubleshooting
This chapter describes how to resolve problems that occur during Device Manager and Tiered Storage
Manager operation, and how to read log files.
Common problems and solutions
This section describes problems that might occur while setting the environments of or operating Device
Manager and Tiered Storage Manager, and the causes of and solutions to these problems.

Problems and solutions in Device Manager
The following table lists common problems that occur in Device Manager and describes how to resolve
them.

Decrease the number of target storage systems or change the size of the
memory heap used by the Device Manager server.
If you change the memory heap size, change it to the value (in MB) that
was calculated by using the formula below. If the result of the following
formula is less than 256 MB, then no changes need to be made.
(0.0145 x number-of-displayed-LUNs + 0.00165 x
number-of-displayed-WWNs) x N
• number-of-displayed-LUNs: The total number of LUNs displayed
for all the hosts (not the number of LUNs set in the storage system)
• number-of-displayed-WWNs: The total number of WWNs dis-
played for all LUNs
• N: The number of users displaying reports at the same time
PROBLEM: A list of LDEVs
allocated to a host or a
list of LDEVs in a logical
group cannot be output to
a report by using the GUI.
CAUSE: Either too many
storage systems have
been selected or the size
of the memory heap used
by the Device Manager
server is too small.
