HP P9000 Replication Manager Software 7.4.0-00 Configuration Guide (TB584-96058, December 2012)
Remote copy type support
Microsoft Exchange Server uses VSS to create replicas. Because VSS only supports Cnt Ac-S for remote
copies, Replication Manager must use Cnt Ac-S to create remote replicas. (Cnt Ac-A and Cnt Ac-J
remote replicas are not supported. VSS does not allow the split time to exceed 10 seconds, and these
copy types cannot meet this requirement.)
Because Microsoft SQL Server does not use VSS (it uses VDI), there is no limitation on the remote copy
type for linkage with Microsoft SQL Server. Cnt Ac-S, Cnt Ac-A, and Cnt Ac-J are also supported.
Replica operations between storage systems
Application Agent is compatible with Continuous Access Synchronous and Continuous Access Journal
backups to (and restorations from) remote site storage systems, for when a failure occurs on a local
site storage system. Depending on the DBMS product linked to, different volume replication functions
can be used:
• Exchange Server: Continuous Access Synchronous
• SQL Server: Continuous Access Synchronous and Continuous Access Journal
Replica operations for Microsoft SQL server
The following features of SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 are not
supported:
• FILESTREAM Data
• Change Data Capture
• Change Tracking
• Backup Compression (Database)
• Backup Compression (Transaction Log)
• Shrinking a Database
For other notes about replica operations for Microsoft SQL Server, see the section on SQL Server data
and requirements in the HP P9000 Replication Manager Software User Guide.
Copy types supported for replica operation
The following system configurations can be used to perform backups and restorations between storage
systems:
• Continuous Access Synchronous or Continuous Access Journal configurations (basic)
• Business Copy and Continuous Access Synchronous multi-target configurations
• Business Copy and Continuous Access Journal multi-target configurations
• Continuous Access Synchronous and Continuous Access Journal multi-target configurations
• Business Copy (multiple generations), Continuous Access Synchronous or Continuous Access
Journal configurations
Dynamic recognition of secondary volumes
When a secondary volume is dynamically recognized, do not use the LUN#0 disk among the physical
disks that are connected to the device adapter port for the primary and secondary volumes. When
the physical disk of LUN#0 is used, other physical disks might not be recognized.
When reinstalling Application Agent
When Application Agent is uninstalled, configuration files might remain. Before re-installing Application
Agent, you should manually delete the entire directory where Application Agent was installed.
