HP StorageWorks XP Application Performance Extender Software 1.0 Release Notes (5697-0473, June 2010)
Licensing information
XP Application Performance Extender v1.0 follows a band-based pricing structure. For a new purchase,
you buy the base license and then purchase all the capacity licenses from the capacity band that
matches the total capacity required. For an upgrade purchase, first verify how much capacity is
already installed. Then, add to it the amount of capacity you intend to purchase. Further, locate the
capacity band that contains the sum you just calculated and purchase all of the desired upgrade
license capacity from this band.
Notes
• A host can be connected to only one XP24000 or XP20000 array.
• On Windows and Linux hosts, only QLogic HBAs are supported.
• A maximum of four XP disk arrays only is supported per management station.
• XP Application Performance Extender supports one controller per XP disk array. For multiple XP
disk arrays, multiple instances of the controller on different hosts accessing each of the arrays are
required.
• The IP address of the hosts should not be changed after installation.
• If the management station is down for a certain duration, the controller works with the set SLO
values, but performance data for that duration is not available.
• If configuration collection is performed on the host running the controller, ensure that you first detach
the controller and then attach it back again.
• After a PRM group configuration change, configuration data must be collected again for that host.
• If a management station has been restarted, host discovery will take a while depending on the
number of hosts connected to the management station. For example, a set up with 32 hosts con-
nected to a single management station will take two to eight minutes.
• To ensure that information is continued to be stored in the database, 2/3rds of the performance
information from the database will be purged.
• If you add or configure ports on the array, ensure that you restart the controller.
• Perceptible workload differentiation may not be achieved with XP Application Performance Extender
in certain low or medium load conditions.
• For highly oscillating or random workload conditions, HP recommends that you set bandwidth
targets.
• You can hide offline hosts, but you cannot remove hosts that are registered with the management
station.
• If command devices are not accessible by the controller that is functioning , you must manually
set the command devices after restoring its availability. To set command devices, click Use Command
Devices on the Controller Settings screen.
• If the controller service is not stopped properly, XP array performance may be impacted.
