Platform LSF Administration Guide Version 6.2
What’s New in the Platform LSF Version 6.2
Administering Platform LSF
18
Platform LSF License Scheduler
License
optimization
◆
Grid license management plugin—Integration with Macrovision®
FLEXnet Manager™ Grid Filter ensures greater productivity by optimizing
licenses, both within and outside a Platform LSF grid environment.
◆
Real-time license status—Integration with the Macrovision®
FLEXnet Connector™ interfaces provides license status information in real-time
for greater management control and avoiding license usage and performance
bottlenecks.
Policy
enhancement
◆
Non-managed workload license policies—Scheduling policies are enforceable
for non-managed workload outside of a Platform LSF cluster. This ensures license
sharing policies are applicable to both managed and non-managed workload
avoiding any sharing conflicts.
◆
Hierarchical business policies—Add business logic and policies to your license
allocation and scheduling ensuring the right project gets the right licenses at the
right time. By aligning licenses to your organizational structure you will avoid the
cost of missing deadlines and overall increase your time to market.
◆
Limits—Maximum use policies ease user groups into a fully sharable environment
ensuring there is no abuse of license usage (tracked or denied) and prevent the cost
of over-used licenses on low priority work.
◆
Accounting and notification of license token overuse—LSF License Scheduler
tracks the peak of tokens used per hour and writes accounting information to the
license usage account file
bld.license.acct.
If LSF_LICENSE_NOTIFICATION_INTERVAL is set in
lsf.conf,
notification email is sent to the primary cluster administrator about license token
overuse.
◆
License policies for unspecified licenses from managed workload—
Scheduling policies for managed workload can handle features not specified at job
submission but required by the application at runtime (class C license features). This
ensures license sharing policies are applicable to both managed and non-managed
workload avoiding any sharing conflicts.
Usability
◆
Pending messages—Detailed messages to users explaining why workload is
pending due to license sharing. This eases administration from users asking you for
a license and if one is not available asking for the reason.
◆
License information pass-through—As an administrator you can customize
how each application will acquire a license based on the allocation decisions pre-
determined within LSF License Scheduler. Passing along the allocation intelligence
to the applications increases the efficiency and optimizes the server resources.
Platform LSF Analytics and Platform LSF Reports
Addition of LSF
Reports
Functionality
Traditionally used as a data exploration tool, Platform LSF Reports can now be used as
a reporting tool. The functionality of LSF Reports has been added to this newest version
of Platform LSF Analytics. LSF report series are now available from the LSF Reports
console. See “New LSF reports” and “New scheduled tasks” for more information.
