HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 3.2.1

6 Software Upgrades
This chapter contains notes about upgrading the HP XC System Software from a previous release
to this release.
Installation release notes described in Chapter 4 (page 21) and system configuration release
notes described in Chapter 5 (page 23) also apply when you upgrade the HP XC System Software
from a previous release to this release. Therefore, when performing an upgrade, make sure you
also read and follow the instructions in those chapters.
6.1 Modifications to the Documented Upgrade Procedure
When you are performing an upgrade, consider the following changes to the upgrade procedure
documented in Chapter 5 of the HP XC System Software Installation Guide:
Section 5.4 “Task 3: Install the Upgrade RPM and Prepare the System”, steps 3, 4, and 5:
Do not use the hptc_upgrade RPM from the XC distribution medium as instructed in steps
3, 4, and 5. A new hptc_upgrade package has been released to resolve two upgrade failed
issues. You must download the appropriate patch from the ITRC instead, and you must use
the version of the RPM that is delivered in the patch.
Section 5.9 “Task 8: Configure the System and Propagate the Golden Image”:
In Section 5.9, step 1, the state of the cluster is unstable at this point because the definition
of all network interfaces has been removed. It is important to complete the remaining
steps in Task 8 as soon as possible. The network configuration files are recreated after
the cluster_config step has completed. You must allow cluster_config to
generate a new image in order for all configuration steps to be run.
— Section 5.9, step 4 instructs you to verify the size of the newly created golden image.
However, the image has not yet been created at this point. This step should appear after
step 5 (running cluster_config) because it is at that point where the image is created.
6.2 Ignore Error Reported by the upgraderpms Command
The upgraderpms command might report the following error :
FATAL: FATAL: Could not open '/boot/System.map-2.6.9-55.9hp.4sp.XCsmp':
No such file or directory
Could not open '/boot/System.map-2.6.9-55.9hp.4sp.XCsmp':
No such file or directory
If you see this error, verify that the file exists in /boot. The System.map file name varies
depending on the release. If the System.map file exists, you can ignore this error.
6.3 Upgrade Process Installs the OFED InfiniBand Software Stack by Default
HP XC System Software Version 3.2.1 installs and uses the Voltaire OFED InfiniBand software
stack by default. Previous HP XC releases installed the Voltaire InfiniBand software stack. If you
want to continue using the Voltaire InfiniBand software stack, you can switch back to the Voltaire
InfiniBand software stack by following the procedure documented in the Switching From the
OFED InfiniBand Software Stack to the Voltaire Software Stack HowTo, which you can view or
download from the following website:
