HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 3.1

3 Hardware Preparation
Hardware preparation tasks are documented in the HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide. This
chapter contains information that was not included in that document at the time of publication.
3.1 Preparing HP Server Blades and Enclosures
If the hardware configuration contains HP server blades and enclosures, download and print
the HP XC Systems With HP Server Blades and Enclosures HowTo from the following Web site:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/highperfcomp.html
The HowTo contains essential information about blade server hardware preparation tasks that
was not available when the HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide was published.
3.2 Upgrading BMC Firmware on HP ProLiant DL140 G2 and DL145 G2
Nodes
This note applies only if the hardware configuration contains HP ProLiant DL140 G2 or DL145
G2 nodes and you are upgrading an existing HP XC system from Version 2.1 or Version 3.0 to
Version 3.1.
The HP ProLiant DL140 Generation 2 (G2) and DL145 G2 series of hardware models must be
installed with BMC firmware version 1.25 or greater. However, the BMC version 1.25 firmware
was not supported by HP XC Version 3.0 or earlier. As a result, you must update the BMC
firmware on these nodes after you upgrade the system to HP XC Version 3.1, which is contrary
to the upgrade instructions for a typical upgrade.
Before upgrading an HP XC system to Version 3.1, contact the HP XC Support Team and request
the procedure to upgrade the BMC firmware on HP ProLiant DL140 G2 and DL145 G2 nodes:

3.3 Additional Information About Preparation Tasks for the HP ProLiant
DL140 G3
Table 3-4 in the HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide instructs you to disable Hyperthreading on
HP ProLiant DL140 G3 servers. Ignore this instruction because Hyperthreading is not presented
as an option on this model of HP ProLiant server.
Disabling Parallel ATA
Also, depending on the SATA disk manufacturer, you might have to disable the parallel ATA
option, otherwise the disk might not be recognized and imaged.
If the BIOS menu displays disk information similar to the following, you must disable the
parallel ATA option:
SATA Port 1 [ST3808110AS -(S1)]
Use the following menus to disable this option:
