HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 3.1

The RRDtool software tool is integrated into the HP XC system to create and displays graphs
about the network bandwidth and other system utilization.
You can access this display by selecting HP Graph in the Nagios menu.
NRG provides status summaries using the information collected by Nagios. A non-graphical
user interface provides status from the command line. You can use NRG on
management_server nodes for complete system status or on management_hub nodes
to report individual hub status.
All new system monitoring features are documented in the HP XC System Software Administration
Guide.
1.14 Job Management: LSF and SLURM
The most recent versions of Platform Computing Load Sharing Facility (LSF) and Simple Linux
Utility for Resource Management (SLURM) products are provided in this release:
LSF-HPC with SLURM and standard LSF Version 6.2
SLURM Version 1.0.15
1.15 Enhancements to the OVP
The Operation Verification Program (OVP) has been enhanced to include the Performance Health
Check (PHC) suite of tests for validating the performance levels of various HP XC components.
System administrators (as root) can use the OVP/PHC to validate the performance of the entire
system, and all users can invoke the OVP/PHC to determine performance anomalies before and
after a job run.
The OVP/PHC verifies the following components:
CPU usage
Memory usage
CPU floating-point performance
Memory bandwidth
Interconnect performance (uni-directional, bi-directional, and collectives: all-to-all, allgather,
and allreduce)
You can specify cluster nodes on which to run the test or you can perform the test within your
own allocation. If the memory usage test identifies nodes with high memory usage, use the
clearbc option to free up the memory in buffer cache.
For more information about enhancements to the OVP, see the HP XC System Software Installation
Guide, the HP XC System Software Administration Guide , the HP XC System Software User's Guide,
and ovp(8).
1.16 HP Job Performance Analyzer
The HP Job Performance Analyzer tool suite delivers the xcxclus and xcxperf monitoring
utilities. These utilities provide real-time, interactive, system-wide monitoring of a user application
and display resource utilization on all cluster components (CPUs, memory, I/O, and interconnect)
simultaneously while an application is running.
The HP Job Performance Analyzer software is optional and is not installed by default with the
HP XC System Software. The HP XC System Software Administration Guide describes how to install
this optional software from the HP XC DVD.
