HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 3.0

6 Software Upgrade Notes
This chapter contains notes about upgrading the HP XC System Software from a previous release
to this release.
6.1 Installation and Configuration Release Notes Also Apply To An
Upgrade
Installation release notes described in Chapter 4 (page 29) and system configuration release
notes described in Chapter 5 (page 31) also apply when you upgrade the HP XC System Software
from a previous release to this release.
Therefore, when performing an upgrade, make sure you also read and follow the instructions
in those chapters.
6.2 Required Task: Determine MAC Addresses For Client Nodes With
External Devices
Before you upgrade your HP XC Version 2.x system to this release, determine the MAC address
for client nodes with external devices. Later, you will add the MAC addresses to the database.
The first step is to determine the MAC address of the affected client nodes:
1. Before turning off power to the client nodes in preparation for the upgrade, run the ifconfig
command on all nodes with external connections to capture the external device MAC address.
# ifconfig | more
2. Write down the node name and the MAC address associated with the external device. You
will use this address in “Required Task: Set External MAC Addresses Before Running the
cluster_config Utility” (page 40).
6.3 Required Task: Delete crash RPM on Opteron-based Systems
This note applies only to systems with an Opteron-based chip architecture (for example, CP4000
systems).
The crash RPM that was delivered in the HP XC Version 2.x release causes RPM upgrade conflict
errors during the upgrade from HP XC Version 2.x to Version 3.0.
Therefore, you must run the following command immediately after you run the preupgradesys
script on your Version 2.x system to manually remove the crash RPM:
# rpm -e crash
6.4 Upgrade Boot Command Line Options Based on Hardware Model
To start the Kickstart software upgrade session, some hardware models require additional options
to be included on the boot command line. Before booting the head node, look in Table 6-1 to
determine if your head node requires a special option on the boot command line.
