4 Installation Notes
This chapter contains notes that apply to the HP XC System Software Kickstart installation
session.
4.1 Notes to Read Before the Kickstart Installation Session
Read the notes in this section before starting the Kickstart installation session.
4.1.1 Kickstart Boot Command Line Options Based on Hardware Model
To start the Kickstart installation, some hardware models require additional options to be included
on the boot command line. Before booting the head node, look in Table 4-1 to determine if your
head node requires a special option on the boot command line.

4.2 Additional Third-Party Software Cannot Be Installed on the Head
Node Until Network Connectivity is Established
Chapter 3 in the HP XC System Software Installation Guide entitled “Installing Software on the
Head Node” discusses installing additional third-party software (Task 4) before the system image
is propagated to all client nodes.
Network connectivity on the head node is not established until after the cluster_prep utility
is run. Therefore, you cannot install third-party software over the network at this point in the
installation and configuration process.
If the software is available from a DVD or CD that you have in your possession, it is perfectly
acceptable to install the software from the local distribution source after the head node is installed.
4.3 Benign Errors in /var/log/postinstall.log File
The following RPM errors might be contained in the /var/log/postinstall.log file after
a new or upgrade installation. These errors are benign and can be safely ignored.
