HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 3.0

1.10 LSF and SLURM
The following enhancements were made to the Load Sharing Facility (LSF) and Simple Linux
Utility for Resource Management (SLURM) on HP XC:
The most recent versions of the LSF and SLURM products are provided in this release:
LSF-HPC with SLURM and Standard LSF Version 6.1
SLURM Version 0.5.0-1
This release introduces the option to install and configure standard LSF. In previous releases,
standard LSF was not offered as an option.
The cluster_config utility provides the option to install LSF-HPC integrated with SLURM
or standard LSF. In previous releases, only LSF-HPC with SLURM was available
LSF batch jobs are no longer impacted by LSF failover.
LSF now reports accurate CPU time and memory usage for all jobs.
SLURM has improved support for the Quadrics interconnect and job accounting.
The spconfig utility accurately configures processor count and memory size for all compute
nodes in SLURM.
1.11 The collectl Utility
The collectl utility is new in this release. It gathers system data and provides a means to
display it in either raw ASCII characters or in a plot form, which can be used to display the data
with GnuPlot or Microsoft Excel.
Refer to the HP XC System Software Administration Guide and collectl(1) for more details.
1.12 Nan Notification Aggregator and Delimiter
This release incorporates the Nan notification aggregator and delimiter for the Nagios paging
system. Nan is an open source supplement to the Nagios application.
Nagios is capable of sending quantities of messages especially when the system is starting up,
shutting down, or experiencing a failure. The Nan front-end utility overcomes the problem of
multiple messages by collecting, batching, and reformatting these messages so that they are sent
in a controlled manner. You can configure how multiple concatenated notifications are sorted
so that the most important notifications appear at the top.
Refer to the HP XC System Software Administration Guide for more details.
1.13 Additional Nagios Plugins
This release incorporates the Nagios 2.0b6 and 1.4.1 plugins.
Also, there are new Nagios plugins, specific to the HP XC system:
System log monitoring and alerts using alerting rules
SLURM job resource monitoring
Configuration monitoring
1.14 The ssh_create_shared_keys Command
The ssh_create_shared_keys command is new in this release. It updates the appropriate
ssh key files in a user's $HOME/.ssh directory (on a one-time basis). This eliminates having to
provide a login name and password each time a user logs in to another node in the HP XC system
or run jobs on those nodes.
1.15 The ipmitool Command
The ipmitool command is new in this release. It enables you to connect to IPMI supported
consoles, such as for HP ProLiant DL145 and HP Integrity series servers.
