HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 3.0
The following changes have been made to the Kickstart installation process:
• In this release, the Kickstart installation will not prompt you to specify the external Ethernet
device to use as the external network device on the head node. The cluster_prep command
now prompts you for this information.
• Because the external Ethernet connection is not configured during the Kickstart installation
process, the head node does not have network connectivity until after the cluster_prep
command is run.
1.5 The discover Command
The following options have been added to the discover command:
• The --super option discovers large-scale systems (more than 512 nodes).
• The --outfile option saved discovered data in a file.
• The --infile option imports a saved data file.
The discover command has also undergone significant performance enhancements.
Refer to the HP XC System Software Installation Guide and discover(8) for more information.
1.6 The cluster_prep Command
The following changes have been made to the cluster_prep command:
• You are prompted to specify the node naming prefix; the default (the letter n) has not
changed. In previous releases, you had the option to change the default node naming prefix
by manually editing the /opt/hptc/config/base_addr.ini file.
• You are prompted to specify the external Ethernet device to use as the external network
device on the head node. In previous releases, this information was requested during the
Kickstart installation process.
1.7 Cluster Configuration
The following enhancements have been made to the cluster_config utility:
• The --init and --migrate options have been added to the cluster_config utility.
These options are used during the software upgrade process to designate whether or not
you want to retain your existing system configuration or migrate to the default configuration
introduced in this release.
The --init option can also be used any time you want to reconfigure your system to use
the default role to node mappings.
• The main menu of the cluster_config utility includes the option to analyze current node
role assignments with settings recommended by HP.
HP recommends using this option any time you run the cluster_config utility, even
when you are configuring your system for the first time.

• The ability to add customized services to one or more nodes is provided.
Customizing services configuration is intended for expert HP XC users; this feature is
typically not required nor intended for the typical HP XC system.
At the main menu of the cluster_config utility, enter the letter p to continue the system
configuration process.
