1. Install all patches from the HP IT Resource Center (ITRC) website that might be available
for HP XC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. “Download and Install Patches” (page 65) describes
how to download patches from this website.
IMPORTANT: You might have to reboot the head node if a patch to the kernel is required.
The patch README file provides instructions. You must stop all user applications before
rebooting the head node.
It is also important to download patches to a directory that is not included in the golden
image, as described in “Download and Install Patches” (page 65).
2. Reinstall or upgrade any HP, open source, or third-party vendor software products that you
specifically installed on the HP XC system (for example, debuggers, compilers, and so on).
3. If necessary, upgrade firmware according to the master firmware list for this release:

Proceed to “Task 7: Manually Merge File Customizations”.
8.8 Task 7: Manually Merge File Customizations
Follow the instructions in “Task 7: Manually Merge File Customizations” (page 125) to manually
merge customizations you might have made to system configuration files in the previous release.
Proceed to “Task 8: Configure the System and Propagate the Golden Image”.
8.9 Task 8: Configure the System and Propagate the Golden Image
Follow this procedure to configure the upgraded system and propagate the new golden image
to all client nodes:
1. Back up the existing configuration and management database and migrate existing data to
the new release format:

The upgradesys-lxc utility performs all the necessary steps
to upgrade your cluster. This script should be run immediately
after you have upgraded the head node with the latest XC software
and any third party vendor rpms.

the upgradesys-lxc script indicates failures. If you cannot determine how to resolve these

2. Review the /opt/hptc/systemimager/etc/base_exclude_file to determine if you
want to exclude files from the golden image beyond what is already excluded. The
