8.1 HP XC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Software Upgrade Overview
You can install the HP XC System Software on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which is called layered
HP XC. If you installed and configured a previous release of HP XC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux,
use the procedures documented in this chapter to upgrade to the next HP XC release.
See “Software Upgrade Overview” (page 119) for a description of how the upgrade process works.
One difference to note is that only HP XC RPMs are upgraded during this upgrade process. The
Red Hat Linux RPMs are not upgraded.

8.1.1 Supported Upgrade Paths for HP XC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
An upgrade is supported from HP XC System Software Version 3.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
to HP XC System Software Version 3.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux .
NOTE: Enter the following command if you are not sure what version of HP XC System Software
is installed:
# cat /etc/lxc-release

Configuration?
An upgrade path from HP XC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 3.1 to Version 3.2 is provided,
but HP recommends a new installation. This recommendation is consistent with other Linux
vendors, who also recommend a new installation rather than an upgrade because the Linux
upgrade operation has a lower probability of success and does not provide a consistent experience.
